Focal Points in House Cleaning

Introduction

Even the cleanest home can get messy quite quickly. It’s not possible to always clean your home, so people often search for “cleaning services near me” and hire professionals for the job. If you want to do it yourself, you need to create focal points for cleaning. Here’s how you can use focal points for cleaning your home.

The Details

1. Start from the top and go low

Whenever you’re cleaning a room, make sure to make the ceiling the focal point and go down from there. That means you start from the ceiling, make your way to the ceiling trims, go down to the baseboards, clean the furniture and finally make your way to the floor. With this approach, you can make cleaning more efficient and reduce redundant movements as much as possible.

When you clean from the top, the dust and other airborne particles fall to the lower surfaces as you make your way to the bottom. That means you don’t have to waste your time and effort cleaning a surface twice. You can even make a DIY tool to efficiently clean the top surfaces. Just combine a telescopic handle and a microfiber cloth so that you can reach those high surfaces with ease.

When you come down to the surfaces closer to the floor, you’ll have to deal with a lot of dirt build-up. Use warm water mixed with a few drops of dish soap to clean the dirt and dust without spreading the mess. Use a microfiber cloth if you can’t reach the surface with a mop. If you notice signs of mildew or mold anywhere add a bit of vinegar to the water and soap solution.

2. Bed in the bedroom

The bed in your bedroom should be the focal point for cleaning it. Start from there and move around to the rest of the room. Your bed contains a lot of dust that would be airborne all over the room as soon as you start cleaning it. That’s why it’s best to make it a focal point.

Wash the bed skirt, shams, down-filled items, pillows, and duvet covers, and spin them a few more times in the washer if necessary. While drying those items, use extra spin cycles along with a couple of tennis balls in the dryer to prevent them from clumping together and creating creases. However, the best solution is to always air dry these things.

Next, sprinkle some baking soda on your mattress to cover the entire surface and let it sit there for an hour or two. Vacuum all the baking soda, flip the mattress, and repeat that all over again. This cleans the mattress and gets rid of bad odor. Next, you can clean the blinds, the side tables, and other parts of the bedroom. When you’re cleaning the closet, take a moment to sort your clothes. Pick out clothes you didn’t wear in the past season and bag them up for donating. Declutter as you clean your home.

3. Kitchen cabinets

Kitchen cabinets should be the focal point for cleaning your kitchen. You’ll be using the appliances and countertop while you sort things out of the cabinet and that’s why making the cabinets the focal point reduces unnecessary effort. Wipe the exposed parts of the cabinet and line the inside with shelf liners or newspaper. The lining collects all the dust so that you can just replace the liners and be done with it the next time.

After that, wipe the cabinet doors with a wood cleaner with consistent circular motions. Next, empty out perishables inside the fridge in a cooler with ice and transfer the rest of it to the countertop. Clean the refrigerator inside out and repeat the same with other appliances like the dishwasher, oven, and food processor. When it comes to the countertop, move everything to the floor and clean the countertop thoroughly. Let it dry out before transferring everything back to the top. Finish it off by wiping off the floors.

4. Shower or Tub area

The obvious focal point in the bathroom is the shower or tub area since you need to put in a lot of effort to clean them. Remove the shower curtains and wash them in gentle cold cycles. Next, make the tub or shower area sparkle by using hot white vinegar. Hot white vinegar is effective against soap scum, hard water spots, and other such stubborn filth.

After using hot vinegar, scrub those surfaces with baking soda with a non-scratch pad. You need to do the same for cleaning the stainless-steel shower heads, handles, and other such surfaces. If you can make time, just get the chaotic area under the sink back in order. Pull everything out, get rid of things that don’t belong there, and sort them by category. Repeat the same process for other types of cabinetries in the bathroom.

 5. Living room and family room

It’s almost impossible to find a focal point for living rooms and family rooms since they are customized according to specific needs. However, most people usually start with the couch and large electronics. Remove all the cushions from the seats and couch and vacuum the upholstered surface. Next, take down all the photos, framed artwork, and other wall accessories. Dust them or wipe them with a microfiber cloth and put them back in place.

When it comes to large electronics, you can clean everything without unplugging them from the wall. Just get an ultra-thin dusting wand from the nearest store and run it to the back and under the electronics to clean them. Finally, when it comes to storing furniture in family rooms and living rooms, pick out old generation games, movie DVDs, and other things that are not used anymore and sort them into two boxes for donation and selling.

Conclusion

Once you make focal points for cleaning your room, your task becomes more accessible. Just keep cleaning supplies on your cleaning apron or in a bucket to keep things efficient. Otherwise, you can search for “cleaning services near me” and hire pros to clean your home for you.
